Cefixime
Cefixime is an orally active third generation cephalosporin broad-spectrum antibiotics & is used to fight bacteria in the body. It acts by inhibiting the bacteria’s formation of cell wall, which breaks the cell wall & kills the bacteria. It is extremely stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes. It inhibits cell wall synthesis by inhibiting final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in cell walls. It has well established pharmacokinetic & pharmacodynamic profile. It is employed to treat certain infections caused by bacteria like bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs); infections of the ears, throat, tonsils, & urinary tract, gonorrhoea (a sexually transmitted disease).
