Cefpodoxime Proxetil
Cefpodoxime is a broad spectrum third generation cephalosporin with antibacterial activity similar to parenteral cephalosporins. Active against Gram-negative & Gram-positive bacteria. Empirical treatment with cefpodoxime is recommended for a wide range of community-acquired infections. It inhibits cell wall synthesis by inhibiting final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in cell walls. It has well established pharmacokinetic profile with absorption of 50%. It is indicated in Community Acquired Pneumonia, Uncomplicated Skin & Skin Structure Infections & Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections.
