Dextromethorphan , Chlorpheniramine Maleate & Phenylephrine HCl
Kofkul is combination of Dextromethorphan which is Anti-tussive due to its central action on cough center & rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract to be converted into lower active metabolite. It elevates the threshold for coughing, without inhibiting ciliary activity. Chlorpheniramine which is anti-histaminic, anti-cholinergic to give symptomatic relief .It inhibits the effects of histamine on capillary permeability & bronchial smooth muscles. It is a first generation alkylamine antihistamine used in the prevention of the symptoms of allergic conditions such as rhinitis & urticaria. Phenylephrine which acts as nasal decongestant, a direct selective alpha adrenergic receptor agonist does not cause release of endogenous noradrenaline with low side effects like CNS stimulation, irritability, insomnia, anxiety & restlessness. Combination is indicated in Dry, irritating & Allergic cough, Rhinitis, Bronchitis & Pneumonia.
